Module, Fuel Pump: Removal

WARNING:
The fuel system may be under a constant pressure (even with the engine off). Before servicing the fuel pump module, the fuel system pressure must be released.
- Perform the fuel system pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable (1).
- Remove the fuel tank. Refer to TANK, FUEL, REMOVAL .NOTE:
Prior to removing the fuel pump module, use compressed air to remove any accumulated dirt and debris from around fuel tank opening.
CAUTION:An indexing arrow is located on top of the main fuel pump module to clock it's position into the fuel tank, note it's location for reassembly.
- Position the lock ring remover/installer (special tool #9340, SAE Fuel Pump Lock Ring Wrench) (3) into the notches on the outside edge of the lock ring (5).
- Install a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar (1) into the lock ring remover/installer (special tool #9340, SAE Fuel Pump Lock Ring Wrench) (3).
- Rotate the breaker bar counterclockwise and remove the lock ring.CAUTION:
Whenever the fuel pump module is serviced, the rubber O-ring seal must be replaced.
- Remove the fuel pump module (4) from the fuel tank. Be careful not to bend float arm during removal.
- Remove and discard the rubber O-ring seal.
