Pan, Oil: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate both of the negative battery cables.
  2. Remove the engine oil dipstick (2).
  3. Remove the bolts (1) and the engine cover (3).
  4. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL, 6.7L .
  5. Remove the bolt securing upper radiator hose support bracket.
  6. If equipped, remove the left generator and mounting brackets. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVAL .
  7. Install the (special tool #10474, Brackets, Engine Lifting) and securely tighten bolts.
  8. Remove the oil fill cap.
  9. Install Driveline Support Fixture (special tool #8534C, Fixture, Driveline Support).
  10. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  11. Drain the engine oil. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  .
  12. Loosen the right and left engine mount bolts.
  13. Remove support and lower the vehicle.
  14. Use the Driveline Support Fixture (special tool #8534C, Fixture, Driveline Support) to raise engine out of the front mounts.
  15. Raise the vehicle.

  16. Remove the retainers and the oil drip tray (1).

  17. If necessary, remove the brake line retaining (2) and slightly bend the tap (1) down to allow for clearance.

    CAUTION:

    The oil pan flange can be damaged if a prybar or screwdriver is used.

  18. Remove the oil pan bolts (5), break the pan to block seal. Using the edge of a putty knife or utility blade, cut the seal, trying not to bend the oil pan flange, then lower pan slightly.
  19. Remove the oil suction tube bolts (1 and 3) and lower the suction tube (4) into oil pan (6).
  20. Remove the oil pan (6) and gasket (7).
