Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. ACTIVE DTC
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool check active DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK THE AMMONIA SENSOR
    NOTE:

The Ammonia Sensor Module has two harness connectors. One connector is routed to the Ammonia Sensor Probe (in the exhaust). The other connector is routed back to the PCM and the PDC. The harness wiring to the Probe is NOT shown in the MINI Wiring Schematic above. Follow the instructions below using

    wiring color only

    for identification.

    Are the P24E1, P24EE, or U05A5 present?

    Yes

    • Perform the P24E1, P24EE, or U05A5 diagnostic procedure before proceeding.
    • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

    No

    • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE DECOMPOSITION TUBE FOR CRYSTALLIZATION
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the DEF Injector from the decomposition tube.
    3. Check the decomposition tube for a blockage due to crystallization.

Is the decomposition tube free of crystallization?

      Yes

      • Go To  4

      No

  4. DEF INJECTOR
    1. Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    2. Reconnect the DEF Injector harness connector.
    3. Place the DEF Injector in a container to capture the fluid sprayed.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Doser Pump Override Test.
      NOTE:

This Test will run for six minutes before timing out. The amount of flow may fluctuate through out the test, therefore the test must be allowed to run completely in order for the results to be accurate. The fluid should spray out as a mist. There should be no dripping from the holes in the DEF Injector at any time during the duration of the test procedure.

    6. Measure the amount of fluid sprayed after the test times out.

Does the fluid sprayed measure between 85 ml and 115 ml?

      Yes

      • Replace the Ammonia Sensor in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No
