Diagnostic Test

- ACTIVE DTCS NOTE:
If other EGR related DTCs are present and active, repair those DTCs before proceeding.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, check for active DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE THERMOSTAT OUTLET FOR A RESTRICTION
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Exhaust Gas Pressure sensor from the thermostat outlet.
- Inspect the Exhaust Gas Pressure sensor and the thermostat outlet for build up or debris.
Are the Exhaust Gas Pressure Sensor and the thermostat outlet free of debris?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Remove debris from Exhaust Gas Pressure Sensor and the thermostat outlet.
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE EXHAUST GAS PRESSURE SENSOR TUBE
- CHECK THE EXHAUST SYSTEM
- Perform the CHECKING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING, 6.7L

Was an Exhaust System leak found?
Yes
- Repair the Exhaust System leak.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 5
- Perform the CHECKING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING, 6.7L

- CHECK THE INTAKE SYSTEM
- Perform INTAKE AIR SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING, 6.7L
.
Was an Intake System leak found?
Yes
- Repair the Intake Air System leak.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 6
- Perform INTAKE AIR SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING, 6.7L

- CHECK THE INTAKE MANIFOLD TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR DEBRIS
- Inspect the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor for soot or other forms of debris.
Was debris found?
Yes
- Clean the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 7
- Inspect the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor for soot or other forms of debris.
- CHECK THE MAF SENSOR FOR DEBRIS
- Inspect the MAF Sensor for debris.
Was debris found?
Yes
- Clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 8
- Inspect the MAF Sensor for debris.
- CHECK THE EGR AIRFLOW THROTTLE CONTROL VALVE
- Remove the boot from the EGR Throttle Control Valve. Using a mirror, look at the butterfly valve on the inside of the EGR Throttle Control Valve.
- Start the vehicle, let idle for 10 seconds.
- Turn ignition off.NOTE:
If functioning properly the EGR Throttle Control Valve will close immediately after the engine is shut down.
Did the EGR Throttle Control Valve close immediately after the engine was shut down?
Yes
- Go To 9
No
- Replace the EGR Airflow Control Valve in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE EGR VALVE
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, erase DTC.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Start engine and let idle to operating temperature.
Is DTC still active?
Yes
No
- Repair complete.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- ACTIVE DTC
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, erase DTC.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Start engine and let idle to operating temperature.
Is DTC still active?
Yes
- Replace EGR Valve in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Repair complete.
- Perform the DIESEL AFTERTREATMENT VALIDATION - 6.7L procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
