Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE FOR BRAKE PEDAL SENSOR FAULTS 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in the ABS Module.

      Is the ABS Module setting any DTCs against the Brake Pedal Sensor?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE CONDITION 
    1. Using the scan tool, compare the Brake Pedal Travel Sensor Setpoint to the Brake Pedal Position in ABS Data.

      Is the difference between Brake Pedal Travel Sensor Setpoint and the Brake Pedal Position greater than 0.2 volts?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR INSTALLATION 
    1. Check the Brake Pedal Position Sensor for proper installation and adjustment.

      Is the Brake Pedal Position Sensor installed properly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Remove and reinstall the Brake Pedal Position Sensor correctly. Erase the DTC. If the DTC will not clear, Go To  4
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. PERFORM BPP SENSOR CALIBRATION 
    1. Using the scan tool, perform the BPP Sensor calibration procedure under PCM.
    2. Using the scan tool, compare the Brake Pedal Travel Sensor Setpoint to the Brake Pedal Position in ABS Data.

      Is the difference between Brake Pedal Travel Sensor Setpoint and the Brake Pedal Position greater than 0.2 volts?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Calibrating the BPP sensor has repaired the fault.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE (B237) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR PROPER VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BPP Sensor harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage on the (B237) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the BPP Sensor harness connector.

      Is the voltage reading between 4.8 and 5.2 volts?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B237) 5-Volt Supply circuit for an open or shorted condition.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE (B137) BPP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage on the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit at the BPP Sensor harness connector.

      Is the voltage reading above 5.2 volts?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  7
  7. CHECK FOR THE (B137) BPP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (B237) BPP SENSOR 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the ABS harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit and the (B237) BPP Sensor 5-Volt Supply circuit at the BPP Sensor harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit and the (B237) BPP Sensor 5-Volt Supply circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short between the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit and the (B237) BPP Sensor Supply circuit.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK THE (B137) BPP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BPP Sensor harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
    4. Check for continuity between ground and the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit at the BPP Sensor harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (B137) BPP Sensor circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To 9
  9. CHECK FOR THE (B137) BPP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (B937) BPP SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT 
    1. Check for continuity between the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit and the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit at the BPP Sensor harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit and the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short between the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit and the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  10
  10. CHECK THE (B137) BPP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit between the BPP Sensor harness connector and the ABS Module harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  11

      No 

      • Repair the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  11. CHECK THE (B937) BPP SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit between the Brake Pedal Sensor harness connector and the ABS harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  12

      No 

      • Repair the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  12. REPLACE THE BPP SENSOR AND RETEST FOR DTCS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Replace the component in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SENSOR, STOP LAMP, REMOVAL .
    3. Connect the component and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) harness connectors.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    6. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    9. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No
