Sensor, Stop Lamp: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

  1. Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755, Trim Stick) or equivalent, disengage the retainer clip that secures the hood release to the steering column opening cover, and remove the hood release handle from the cover.
  2. Remove the two fasteners that secure the bottom of the steering column opening cover to the instrument panel.

  3. Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755, Trim Stick) or equivalent, release the retainer clips that secure the steering column opening cover to the instrument panel and lower the cover to gain access to the brake pedal sensor location.
  4. Locate the brake pedal position sensor (3) on the brake pedal support bracket under the instrument panel to the right of the steering column shaft (1).
  5. Disconnect the body wire harness connector (2) from the sensor.
  6. This sensor is indexed. Depress the tabs and then rotate the sensor 1/4 turn counter clockwise.
  7. After rotation, the sensor becomes unlocked from the base and can now be removed by pulling straight rearward.
