Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC 
    1. With vehicle in park/neutral, use the accelerator pedal to accelerate the engine speed to 3100-3200 RPM and hold the engine speed for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Return to idle for 60 seconds and then repeat.

      Does P2579 become active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. INCORRECT BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR INSTALLED 
    1. The CAC/Boost Pressure Sensor and Intake Air Temperature/Intake Air Pressure Sensors are similar but have different part numbers. If the Boost Pressure Sensor was replaced with the wrong part, this DTC can be set.
    2. Verify the part number of the Boost Pressure Sensor.

      Is the Boost Pressure Sensor part number correct?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Replace the Boost Pressure Sensor with the correct part.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. TURBOCHARGER SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Turbocharger Speed Sensor harness connector.
      NOTE:

      Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.

    3. Measure the resistance of the Turbo Speed Sensor by probing Turbo Speed Sensor (K540) Signal circuit and the Turbo Speed Sensor (K541) ground circuit at the Turbocharger Speed Sensor.

      Is the resistance between 600 and 1600 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

  4. CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE TURBO SPEED (K540) SIGNAL CIRCUIT 
    1. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the Turbo Speed Sensor (K540) Signal circuit between the PCM C1 harness connector and the Turbocharger Speed Sensor harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the Turbo Speed Sensor (K540) Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE TURBO SPEED SENSOR (K541) RETURN CIRCUIT 
    1. Measure the resistance of the Turbo Speed Sensor (K541) Return circuit between the Turbo Speed Sensor harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

      • Repair the Turbo Speed Sensor (K540) Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) 
    1. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. With vehicle in park/neutral, use the accelerator pedal to accelerate the engine speed to 3100-3200 RPM and hold the engine speed for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Return to idle for 60 seconds and then repeat.

      Does DTC P2579 become active during engine operation?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

      • The problem may have been corrected when the harness connections were re-connected. Be certain that the PCM and chassis grounds are in good condition.
      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
  7. CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS 
    1. Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
    2. Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
    3. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    4. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    5. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    6. Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    9. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    10. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
    11. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No 

      • The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
