Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    If DTCs P24D0, P24AE, U04A4, or U02A3 are present, perform the diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.

    1. Ignition on, engine not running.
    2. Using the scan tool, record all Freeze Frame Data.
    3. Using the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
    5. Cycle the key on and off at least two times, waiting at least 10 seconds for each cycle.
    6. Turn the ignition on, idle the engine to operating temperature.
    7. Test drive the vehicle under steady state operating conditions for 10-15 minutes.
    8. Using the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Is this DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK FOR EXHAUST LEAK NEAR THE PM SENSOR MODULE 
    1. Ignition off, engine not running.
      NOTE:

      The PM Sensor module is located on the frame near the SCR Catalyst outlet.

    2. Inspect the following components near the PM Sensor module: SCR Catalyst outlet, tailpipe, and SCR Catalyst outlet-to-tailpipe joint for an exhaust leak that would cause hot exhaust gas to be directed onto the PM Sensor module.

      Were any exhaust leaks found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK FOR DEBRIS OR AFTERMARKET COMPONENTS BLOCKING AIRFLOW TO THE PM SENSOR MODULE 
    1. Inspect the area near the PM Sensor module mounting for debris, mud build-up, aftermarket shields, flaps, or brackets mounted too close that would block airflow or trap heat around the PM Sensor module.

      Were any intrusive items found to be blocking airflow or trapping heat?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK FOR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OR SOFTWARE UPDATE 
    1. Check for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) or PCM Software Updates.

      Are there any TSBs or PCM software updates that address this DTC?

      Yes 

      • Perform the appropriate repair outlined in the TSB.
      • If there is a software update, use the scan tool to reflash the PCM with the latest calibration.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
