Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

REMOVAL 

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  3. Open the three wire retainer (1) and remove the Particulate Matter (PM) sensor wire harness (green wire) from the retainers.

  4. Remove the wire harness retainer (1) from the bracket.

  5. Remove the two lower NOx/Particulate Matter (PM) sensor module bracket bolts (1) near the frame rail.

  6. Remove the two upper NOx/PM sensor module bracket bolts (1) and position the mounting bracket toward the propeller shaft.

  7. Position the NOx/PM sensor module bracket and disconnect the PM sensor module wire harness connector (3).
  8. Remove the nuts (2) and the PM sensor module (1).

  9. Open the two retainers (2) and remove the PM sensor wire.
  10. Using a six sided crow foot, remove the PM sensor (3) from the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR).
  11. If the PM sensor fails to loosen use a torque wrench set to 160 N.m (118 ft. lbs.) and loosen PM sensor (1).
    NOTE:

    DO NOT  use a torch as a heat source.

  12. If the PM sensor is still not loose after applying 160 N.m (118 ft. lbs.) then use a heat gun to heat the PM sensor boss for 1 minute at 450° C (842° F).

INSTALLATION

  1. Install the Particulate Matter (PM) sensor (3) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Install the PM sensor in retainer (2) and close the retainer.

  3. Install the PM sensor module (1) and tighten the nuts (2) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Connect the PM sensor wire harness connector (3).

  5. Install the NOx/PM sensor module bracket (2) and tighten the upper bolts (1) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  6. Install the lower NOx/PM sensor module bracket bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  7. Install the wire harness retainer (1) to the bracket.

  8. Install the PM sensor wire harness (green wire) to the three retainers (1) and close retainer.
  9. Remove support and lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
