Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Remove the steering column shroud. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

4. Disconnect the shift interlock solenoid (2) wire harness connector (1).

5. Remove and DISCARD  the fastener (1) from the bottom side of the shifter assembly.

6. Remove the shift cable (1) from the shifter assembly. Remove and DISCARD  the fastener (2) from shifter assembly and remove from vehicle.

7. If necessary, remove the fastener (1) securing the handle to the shifter assembly. Remove the handle (2) from the shifter assembly.

8. Remove the shifter boot (1) from the shifter handle.

INSTALLATION

1. If replaced, install the shifter boot (1) on the shifter handle.

2. If serviced, Install the handle (2) in the shifter assembly. Install the fastener (1) securing the handle to the shifter assembly. Tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

3. Place the shifter assembly and install a NEW  fastener (2), torque to proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the shift cable (1) to the shifter assembly.

4. Install a NEW  fastener (1) in the bottom side of the shifter assembly, torque to proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

5. Connect the shift interlock solenoid (2) wire harness connector (1).
6. Install the steering column shroud. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
7. Release the parking brake.
8. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
