Removal And Installation

REMOVAL

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
If equipped, remove the skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , PLATE, SKID, FUEL TANK, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PLATE, SKID, TRANSFER CASE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Mark a line across the axle companion flange, drive shaft, flange yoke and transmission case for installation reference.

Remove the rear drive shaft to rear axle bolts (1).

If equipped, remove the two bolts (1) holding the center support bearing(s).
Remove the rear drive shaft.

INSTALLATION

Insert drive shaft into transmission or transfer case.

If equipped, install the two bolts (1) holding the center support bearing(s). Tighten to proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

Install the rear drive shaft to the axle with all the reference marks aligned. Install the four bolts (1) and torque to proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
If equipped, install the skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , PLATE, SKID, FUEL TANK, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PLATE, SKID, TRANSFER CASE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
