CROSSMEMBER-Engine Cradle: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate battery negative cable (2) from battery post. (Refer to ELECTRICAL/BATTERY SYSTEM - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Siphon power steering fluid from pump reservoir.
1 - DRIVE ON LIFT 2 - SAE HOISTING SYMBOLS 2 - FRAME CONTACT LIFT (SINGLE POST) 2 - CHASSIS LIFT (DUAL LIFT) 2 - OUTBOARD LIFT (DUAL LIFT) 2 - FLOOR JACK 3 - HOISTING PADS 3 - FRAME CONTACT LIFT (SINGLE POST) 3 - CHASSIS LIFT (DUAL LIFT) 3 - OUTBOARD LIFT (DUAL LIFT) 3 - FLOOR JACK - Raise and support the vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
- Remove the left and right front wheels (1). (Refer to TIRES/WHEELS - REMOVAL)
- Remove outer tie rod (2) end nut (1) at each knuckle (3).
- Using Remover (2), Special Tool 9630, separate outer tie rod (1) from each knuckle.
- On each side of vehicle, remove nut (5) fastening stabilizer link (3) to stabilizer bar (4). Slide link ball joint stem (1) from bar.
1 - Item_1 2 - Item _2 - Back off nut (3) from bolt (1) attaching shock clevis bracket (2) to lower control arm (7) until it is flush with end of bolt.
- Using a brass drift punch, tap the bolt out of the clevis bracket until bolt serrations clear bracket.
- Remove nut (3) and bolt (1) for clevis bracket and control arm.
- Install engine support tool #8534.
- Remove upper airbox inlet tube.
- Install left and right engine lift bracket to cylinder head.
- Remove the front belly pan. (Refer to BODY/EXTERIOR/BELLY PAN - REMOVAL)
1 - Item_1 2 - Item _2 - Remove two pressure line retainer bolts (1) from cradle (2).
1 - Item_1 2 - Item _2 - Remove mounting screws, then heat shield (3) above each inner tie rod bellows (2).
1 - Item_1 2 - Item _2 - Remove steering gear upper mounting bolt (4) and nut.
- Remove steering gear lower mounting bolts (2 and 3).
- Remove steering gear (1) and support from the exhaust system.
1 - Item_1 2 - Item _2 - Loosen nut (4) attaching lower control arm ball joint stud to knuckle (3). Back nut off until nut is even with end of stud. Keeping nut on at this location will help keep end of stud from distorting while using Puller in next step.
CAUTION: In following step, use care not to damage ball joint seal boot while sliding Puller, Special Tool 9360, into place past seal boot.
- Using Puller (2), Special Tool 9360, separate ball joint stud from knuckle.
- Remove tool.
- Remove left and right engine mount nut.
- Remove nut (1) from end of ball joint stud.
- On each side of vehicle, remove bolts (2) fastening stabilizer bar isolator retainer (3) in place.
- Remove stabilizer bar with isolators and retainers from vehicle.
- Support the engine cradle (special tool #8534) with a suitable lifting device.
- Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark the position of the engine cradle to aid installation.
- Remove the four engine cradle bolts and lower the cradle.
- Remove the control arms, if required.
