Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Dodge Charger and 2010 Chrysler 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE CONDITION 
    NOTE: The Transmission Control Module stores under Environmental Data the transmission operating conditions when the DTC was set.
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs. Copy DTC and Freeze Frame information and record on the repair order. Check for applicable Flash updates and perform as required. Cycle the ignition off and back on for 15 seconds, three times.
    3. With the scan tool, read DTCs .

      Did the DTC return as active?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  2.

      No 

  2. CHECK FOR OTHER TCM DTCS 
    1. Refer to the recorded DTCs.

      Are there any other CAN BUS DTCs active in the ESM or other modules?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to step  3.
  3. CHECK THE TRS PARK SWITCH STATE 
    1. With the scan tool, check and verify the Park Switch State displays correctly in the ESM and WIN modules.

      Do both modules show the correct data?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to step  4.
  4. CHECK THE SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT 
    1. Check and verify the Shift Cable adjustment .

      Is the Shift Cable adjusted properly in accordance with the service information?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  5.

      No 

      • Perform the Shift Cable Adjustment procedure in accordance with the Service Information and verify proper TRS Park operation .
      • Perform NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. See NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST 
  5. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS FOR THE ESM AND AUTO STICK SWITCH (SHIFT LEVER) 
    1. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped). Disconnect the related component harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions: Proper connector installation Damaged connector locks. Corrosion. Other signs of water intrusion. Weather seal damage (if equipped). Bent terminals. Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw). Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.

      Were any problems found with the wiring or connectors?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to step  6.
  6. CHECK THE AUTOSTICK SWITCH OPERATION 
    1. Operate the switches and measure the resistance between the Autostick Switch MUX circuit and the MUX return circuit and compare to the table below.

      AUTOSTICK SWITCH RESISTANCE VALUES (COLUMN SHIFT) 

      NON SWITCHED STATE  ENABLE  DOWNSHIFT  UPSHIFT 
      21.5k Ohms ± 1% 2.64k Ohms ± 1% 4.05k Ohms ± 1% 8.10k Ohms ± 1%

      Does the resistance match the table?

      Yes 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) terminals for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the ESM (Steering Column) in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to 19 - Steering/Column/ Removal)REMOVAL
      • Perform NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. See NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST
