Radiator Fan: Removal
NOTE:
The fan motor, fan, and the shroud are serviced as an assembly.
WARNING:
DO NOT REMOVE THE CYLINDER BLOCK PLUG OR THE RADIATOR DRAINCOCK WITH THE SYSTEM HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE BECAUSE SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN OCCUR.
- Disconnect negative cable from battery.
- Partially drain cooling system below upper radiator hose level (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Remove grille (Refer to BODY/EXTERIOR/GRILLE - REMOVAL) .
- Remove upper radiator closure panel (Refer to BODY/EXTERIOR/RADIATOR CLOSURE PANEL - REMOVAL)
. See Fig 1.
1 - UPPER RADIATOR CLOSURE PANEL 2 - CENTER BRACE - Disconnect upper radiator hose and overflow hose from radiator filler neck. See Fig 2.
- Remove radiator filler neck. See Fig 2.
1 - FAN MOUNTING NUT 2 - RADIATOR FILLER NECK 3 - FAN - Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Disconnect radiator fan electrical connector.
- Remove the two lower and left side radiator fan screws. See Figure.
- Lower vehicle and remove the remaining radiator fan attaching screws. See Figure.CAUTION: Care should be taken not to damage the radiator cooling fins and tubes during fan removal.
- Remove radiator fan by lifting up from the engine compartment.
