Test 6A: Seat Squib Circuit Short To Battery

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if SEAT SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If left or right Side Impact Air Bag Control Module (SIACM) is generating an active DTC, go to next step. If left or right SIACM is generating a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access appropriate side air bag and disconnect harness connector. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to side air bag harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Using DRBIII, read SIACM DTCs. If DRBIII displays SEAT SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display SEAT SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace faulty side air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access appropriate SIACM and disconnect harness connector. See SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (SIACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adaptor to SIACM harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage in appropriate side air bag line 1 circuit between load tool adaptor and side air bag harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure voltage in appropriate side air bag line 2 circuit between load tool adaptor and side air bag harness connector. If voltage is not present in both circuits, replace appropriate SIACM. If voltage is present in either circuit, repair short to battery in appropriate circuit.
