Test 21A: Passenger Squib 1 Circuit Open

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN is an active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES  .
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access passenger-side air bag module and disconnect harness connector. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to passenger-side air bag module harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, replace passenger-side air bag module.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Remove load tool from passenger-side air bag harness connector. Measure resistance in passenger-side air bag module line 1 circuit (Black/Yellow wire) between load tool adapter and passenger-side air bag connector. Measure resistance in passenger-side air bag module line 2 circuit (Dark Green/Yellow wire) between load tool adapter and passenger-side air bag connector. If resistance is less than one ohm in both circuits, replace ORC. If resistance is more than one ohm in either circuit, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
