Test K: Blower Motor Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove and inspect junction block fuse No. 1 (30-amp). If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, install fuse No. 1 (30-amp), then go to step 4.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Attempt to operate blower motor in all speeds and modes. If blower motor operated without blowing fuse No. 1 (30-amp), go to step 10. If fuse opened, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Turn blower switch off. Disconnect blower motor harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and blower motor power feed circuit at Dark Green wire terminal. If reading is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between junction block and blower motor harness connector. If reading is 5 ohms or more, replace blower motor.
- Ensure junction block fuse No. 1 (30-amp) is properly installed. Turn blower switch off. Disconnect blower motor resistor harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and blower motor resistor connector Black wire terminal. If reading is less than 10 volts, go to step 8. If reading is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect HVAC control panel C2 harness connector. Using a jumper connected between ground and HVAC control panel C2 connector Black/Tan wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If blower motor operates at high speed, go to next step. If blower motor does not operate at high speed, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and HVAC control panel C2 connector Black/Gray wire terminal. If reading is less than 5 ohms, replace HVAC control panel. If reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Gray wire. After repair, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance in Black/Tan wire between HVAC control panel C2 connector terminal No. 10 and blower motor resistor connector terminal No. 2. If reading is less than 5 ohms, replace blower motor resistor. If reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Tan wire. After repair, go to step 11.
- Turn blower switch off. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM connected to ground, backprobe blower motor harness connector Black wire terminal. If reading is 10 volts or more, repair open in blower motor driver circuit (Black wire). If reading is less than 10 volts, go to next step. After repair, go to step 11.
- Backprobe blower motor feed circuit (Dark Green wire) terminal of blower motor connector. If reading is 10 volts or more, replace blower motor. If reading is less than 10 volts, repair open or high resistance in Dark green wire between blower motor harness connector and junction block fuse No. 1 (30-amp). After repair, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Visually inspect related wiring harness, connectors and components. Check for damaged or chafed wiring, damaged or broken connectors and/or components. Check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) from manufacturer that may apply. Repair any faulty condition found as necessary. After repair, go to next step. If no faults are found, test is complete.
- Perform verification test. See BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS.
