Scan Tool (Mut-II) Cannot Communicate With SRS

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect SRS-ECU connector. See Fig 1. Measure resistance between ground and SRS-ECU connector terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step 3. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, go to next step.
- Check condition of SRS-ECU connector terminals and ground wire. If SRS-ECU connector terminals and ground wire are not okay, replace wiring harness and go to step 5. If SRS-ECU connector terminals and ground wire are okay, go to step 5.
- Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check voltage between ground and SRS-ECU connector terminals No. 9 and 12. See Fig 1. If voltage is less than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9 volts or more, go to step 5.
- Check wiring harness between SRS-ECU connector and Ignition switch, including connectors C-301 and C-302 located at fuse block under left-side of instrument panel near left kick panel. See Fig 2. Check wiring harness between SRS-ECU connector and DLC connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Recheck communication between scan tool and SRS-ECU. If scan tool can communicate SRS-ECU, diagnosis is complete. If scan tool cannot communicate with SRS-ECU and no faults were detected during inspection, intermittent fault may exist. See INTERMITTENT AIR BAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTION .
