Code 41 & 42: IG1 Power Circuit

NOTE: After fault is eliminated, AIR BAG warning light goes out and code automatically clears.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Ensure SRS-ECU connector is disconnected. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and SRS-ECU connector terminals No. 9 and 12. See Figure. If voltage is less that 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9 volts or more, go to step  4.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable and shield. Wait at least 60 seconds. Check wiring harness between SRS-ECU connector and Ignition switch, including connectors C-301 and C-303 located at fuse block under left-side of instrument panel near left kick panel. See Figure. Repair as necessary and go to step  6.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable and shield. Wait at least 60 seconds. Measure resistance between ground and SRS-ECU connector terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, replace SRS-ECU and go to next step. If resistance is more that 2 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Check condition of SRS-ECU connector, terminals and ground wire. If SRS-ECU connector, terminals and ground wire are not okay, replace wiring harness and go to step  5. If SRS-ECU connector, terminals and ground wire are okay, go to next step.
  6. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Using scan tool, check to see if codes 41 or 42 are still present. If codes are still present, replace SRS-ECU. If codes are not present, diagnosis is complete. If codes are not present and no malfunctions were detected during inspection, air bag system may have intermittent malfunction.
