Code 24, 25, 64 & 65: Passenger-Side Air Bag Module

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. Connect SRS Check Harness (MB991613) connector No. 1 to harness side of air bag module connector. See Figure. Reconnect SRS-ECU connector. Connect negative battery cable. Using scan tool, Erase diagnostic trouble code memory. Check to see if codes 24, 25, 64 or 65 are still present. If codes are still present, go to next step. If codes are not present, replace passenger-side air bag module and go to step  4.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable and shield. Wait at least 60 seconds. Disconnect SRS-ECU connector. Inspect air bag system wiring harness between passenger SRS-ECU connector and passenger-side air bag module connector for damage. If damage is detected, replace wiring harness and go to step  4. If damage is not detected, go to next step.
  4. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, check to see if codes 24, 25, 64 or 65 are still present. If codes are still present, replace SRS-ECU. If codes are not present, diagnosis is complete. If codes are not present and no malfunctions were detected during inspection, air bag system may have intermittent malfunction. See INTERMITTENT AIR BAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTION  under DIAGNOSTICS.
