NOTE: Adjust clutch pedal clevis pin play and clutch pedal height before adjusting clutch pedal free play. See CLUTCH PEDAL CLEVIS PIN PLAY  and CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT  .
  1. Measure clutch pedal free play (distance "B"). See Fig 1 . Clutch pedal free play should be .240-.510" (6.0-13.0 mm). Also, measure distance between face of clutch pedal and firewall (distance "C") with pedal depressed. See Fig 2 . On models equipped with 2.4L engine, distance should be 3.80" (96.5 mm) or greater. On models equipped with 3.0L engine, distance should be 3.50" (89.0 mm).
  2. On all models, if measurements are not as specified, hydraulic system may require bleeding; or clutch master cylinder or clutch may be faulty. Bleed air from system. See BLEEDING  . If measurements are still not to specification, repair or replace master cylinder or clutch as necessary.
