Tie Rod - Outer: Removal

Raise vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
Remove wheel and tire assembly.

Loosen inner tie rod-to-outer tie rod jam nut. See Fig 1.

1 - OUTER TIE ROD

2 - INNER TIE ROD

3 - JAM NUT

Remove nut attaching outer tie rod to steering knuckle. See Fig 2. Nut is removed from tie rod by holding tie rod stud with a socket while loosening and removing nut with wrench.

4 - TIE ROD STUD

5 - NUT

Remove tie rod stud from steering knuckle using Remover, Special Tool C-3894-A.
Remove outer tie rod from inner tie rod by un-threading it.
