Installation - Engine Assembly

- Position engine/transaxle assembly under vehicle and slowly lower vehicle in short length spans. Inspect at each interval for potential engine or transaxle contact to vehicle components. Move the cradle/dolly fixture as necessary to allow for installation clearance.
- Continue lowering vehicle until right side engine mount and left side transaxle mount align to their mounting locations. Install mounting bolts and torque to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).
- Remove safety straps from engine/transaxle assembly. Slowly raise vehicle enough to remove the engine dolly and cradle.
- Install A/C compressor.
- Connect A/C suction line to compressor.
- Install AIR pump (if equipped) (Refer to EMISSIONS CONTROL/AIR INJECTION/PUMP - INSTALLATION) .
- Install generator.
- Install intake manifold. Torque fasteners to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.) (Refer to ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD - INSTALLATION) .
- Connect generator connectors.
- Connect fuel line to fuel rail.
- Connect brake booster and vapor purge hoses.
- Connect all ground straps to engine.
- Connect heater hose to thermostat housing.
- Connect coolant recovery container overflow hose.
- Connect throttle and speed control cables.
- Connect ground cable to left side transaxle mount bracket.
- Connect positive cable to battery and PDC.
- Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Install torque converter bolts.
- Install structural collar and torque reaction bracket (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/STRUCTURAL COVER - INSTALLATION) .
- Install rear mount bracket to transmission.
- Install front and rear engine mount through bolts. Torque fasteners to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).
- Connect exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold. Torque fasteners to 28 N.m (250 in. lbs.).
- Connect A/C compressor electrical connectors.
- Connect heater return hose to pipe connection at right front frame rail area.
- Install power steering pump to bracket.
- Install accessory drive belts (Refer to COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - INSTALLATION) .
- Install both axle shafts (Refer to DIFFERENTIAL & DRIVELINE/HALF SHAFT - INSTALLATION) .
- Install new oil filter.
- Install left and right splash shields.
- Install both front wheels.
- Lower vehicle.
- Connect engine electrical harness to PCM and bulkhead connectors.
- Connect transmission shift cable.
- Connect transmission electrical connectors (C104 & C105) (Refer to CONNECTOR/GROUND/SPLICE LOCATION ).
- Install cooling module assembly (radiator, fan module, and condenser). Connect A/C lines to condenser.
- Connect transmission oil cooler lines using service splice kit. Refer to instructions provided with kit.
- Connect upper and lower radiator hoses.
- Install upper radiator crossmember.
- Install throttle body air inlet hose and air cleaner housing assembly.
- Fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
- Evacuate and recharge A/C system (Refer to HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING - EXCEPT COUPE ).
- Fill cooling system (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Connect negative battery cable.
- Start engine and run until normal operating temperature is reached.
