Removal - Cylinder Head

- Perform fuel system pressure release procedure before attempting any repairs. (Refer to FUEL SYSTEM - EXCEPT COUPE )
- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Drain cooling system (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Remove throttle body air inlet hose and air cleaner housing assembly.
- Remove intake manifold (Refer to ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD - REMOVAL) .
- Disconnect heater hose from thermostat housing.
- Remove heater tube support bracket from cylinder head.
- Disconnect camshaft position sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect EGR solenoid electrical connector.
- Disconnect connector tube from the one way check valve. See Fig 1.
- Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
- Remove accessory drive belts (Refer to COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL) .
- Remove crankshaft damper (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/VIBRATION DAMPER - REMOVAL) .
- Remove upper and lower timing belt covers (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT / CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL).
- Remove timing belt (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN AND SPROCKETS - REMOVAL) .
- Remove camshaft sprockets (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN AND SPROCKETS - REMOVAL) .
- Remove timing belt idler pulley and rear timing belt cover.
- Remove cylinder head cover (Refer to ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD COVER(S) - REMOVAL).
- Remove camshafts and rocker arms (Refer to ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CAMSHAFT(S) - REMOVAL).
- Remove cylinder head bolts and remove cylinder head from engine block.
- Inspect and clean cylinder head (Refer to ENGINE - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
