Oil Pump: Installation

- Make sure all surfaces are clean and free of oil and dirt.
- Apply Mopar(R) Gasket Maker to oil pump as shown in Fig 1. Install oil ring into oil pump body discharge passage.
1 - APPLY GASKET MAKER TO OIL PUMP BODY FLANGE 2 - O-RING - Prime oil pump before installation.
- Align oil pump rotor flats with flats on crankshaft as you install the oil pump to the block.NOTE: Front crankshaft seal MUST be out of pump to align, or damage may result.
- Torque all oil pump attaching bolts to 28 N.m (250 in. lbs.).
- Install new front crankshaft seal using Special Tool 6780. See Fig 2.
1 - PROTECTOR 2 - SEAL 3 - SPECIAL TOOL 6780-1 4 - INSTALLER - Install crankshaft sprocket, using Special Tool 6792. See Fig 3.
1 - SPECIAL TOOL 6792 2 - TIGHTEN NUT TO INSTALL - Install oil pick-up tube and oil pan (Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL PAN - INSTALLATION) .
- Install timing belt rear cover and camshaft sprockets (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT COVER(S) - INSTALLATION).
- Install the timing belt tensioner pulley bracket (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN TENSIONER&PULLEY - INSTALLATION) .
- Install the timing belt (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT AND SPROCKETS - INSTALLATION) .
- Install the front timing belt cover (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT COVER(S) - INSTALLATION).
- Install crankshaft vibration damper (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/VIBRATION DAMPER - INSTALLATION) .
- Fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
- Connect negative cable to battery.
