INSPECTION PROCEDURE 4: No Sound from One Speaker. < Vehicles with Amplifier >: Diagnosis

  1. STEP 1. Check to see which speaker dose not sound. 

    Determine which speaker does not sound.

    Q: Which speaker is not sounding? 

    Door speaker (LH)  : Go to Step 2.

    Door speaker (RH)  : Go to  Step 6.

    Rear speaker (LH)  : Go to  Step 10.

    Rear speaker (RH)  : Go to  Step 14.

    Tweeter (LH)  : Go to  Step 18.

    Tweeter (RH)  : Go to  Step 22.

    Center speaker  : Go to  Step 26.

  2. STEP 2. Check the door speaker (LH). 
    1. Remove the door speaker (LH). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
    2. Check that the door speaker (LH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the door speaker (LH) terminal.

    Q: Is the door speaker (LH) generating noise? 

    YES  : Go to Step 3.

    NO:  Replace the door speaker (LH). The door speaker (LH) should sound.

  3. STEP 3. Check door speaker (LH) connector E-10 and radio and audio amplifier connector D-19 for damage. 

    Q: Are door speaker (LH) connector E-10 and radio and audio amplifier connector D-19 in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 4.

    NO:  Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The door speaker (LH) should sound.

  4. STEP 4. Check the wiring harnesses between door speaker (LH) connector E-10 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 30 and 23).

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-211. If intermediate connector C-211 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harnesses between door speaker (LH) connector E-10 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminal 30s and 23) in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 5.

    NO:  Repair the wiring harness(es). The door speaker (LH) should sound.

  5. STEP 5. Replace the radio and CD player. 

    Q: Do the speakers sound? 

    YES  : There is no action to be taken.

    NO:  Repair or replace the amplifier. The front speaker (LH) should sound.

  6. STEP 6. Check the door speaker (RH). 
    1. Remove the door speaker (RH). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
    2. Check that the door speaker (RH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the door speaker (RH) terminal.

    Q: Is the door speaker (RH) generating noise? 

    YES  : Go to Step 7.

    NO:  Replace the door speaker (RH). The door speaker (RH) should sound.

  7. STEP 7. Check door speaker (RH) connector E-01 and amplifier connector D-19 for damage. 

    Q: Are door speaker (RH) connector E-01 and amplifier connector D-19 in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 8.

    NO:  Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The door speaker (RH) should sound.

  8. STEP 8. Check the wiring harnesses between door speaker (RH) connector E-01 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 28 and 29).

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-213. If intermediate connector C-213 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harnesses between door speaker (RH) connector E-01 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 28 and 29) in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 9.

    NO:  Repair the wiring harness(es). The door speaker (RH) should sound.

  9. STEP 9. Replace the radio and CD player. 

    Q: Do the speakers sound? 

    YES  : There is no action to be taken.

    NO:  Repair or replace the amplifier. The front speaker (RH) should sound.

  10. STEP 10. Check the rear speaker (LH). 
    1. Remove the rear speaker (LH). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
    2. Check that the rear speaker (LH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the rear speaker (LH) terminal.

    Q: Is the rear speaker (LH) generating noise? 

    YES  : Go to Step 11.

    NO:  Replace the rear speaker (LH). The rear speaker (LH) should sound.

  11. STEP 11. Check rear speaker (LH) connector F-15 and amplifier connector D-19 for damage. 

    Q: Are rear speaker (LH) connector F-15 and amplifier connector D-19 in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 12.

    NO:  Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The rear speaker (LH) should sound.

  12. STEP 12. Check the wiring harness between rear speaker (LH) connector F-15 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 31 and 32).

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-210. If intermediate connector C-210 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harnesses between rear speaker (LH) connector F-15 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 31 and 32) in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 13.

    NO:  Repair the wiring harness(es). The rear speaker (LH) should sound.

  13. STEP 13. Replace the radio and CD player. 

    Q: Do the speakers sound? 

    YES  : There is no action to be taken.

    NO:  Repair or replace the amplifier. The rear speaker (LH) should sound.

  14. STEP 14. Check the rear speaker (RH). 
    1. Remove the rear speaker (RH). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
    2. Check that the rear speaker (RH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the rear speaker (RH) terminal.

    Q: Is the rear speaker (RH) generating noise? 

    YES  : Go to Step 15.

    NO:  Replace the rear speaker (RH). The rear speaker (RH) should sound.

  15. STEP 15. Check rear speaker (RH) connector F-07 and amplifier connector D-19 for damage. 

    Q: Are rear speaker (RH) connector F-07 and amplifier connector D-19 in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 16.

    NO:  Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The rear speaker (RH) should sound.

  16. STEP 16. Check the wiring harnesses between door speaker (RH) connector F-07 (terminals 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 24 and 25).

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-210. If intermediate connector C-210 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harnesses between door speaker (RH) connector F-07 (terminals 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 24 and 25) in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 17.

    NO:  Repair the wiring harness(es). The rear speaker (RH) should sound.

  17. STEP 17. Replace the radio and CD player. 

    Q: Do the speakers sound? 

    YES  : There is no action to be taken.

    NO:  Repair or replace the amplifier. The rear speaker (RH) should sound.

  18. STEP 18. Check the tweeter (LH). 
    1. Remove the tweeter (LH). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
    2. Check that the tweeter (LH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the tweeter (LH) terminal.

    Q: Is the tweeter (LH) generating noise? 

    YES  : Go to Step 19.

    NO:  Replace the tweeter (LH). The tweeter (LH) should sound.

  19. STEP 19. Check tweeter (LH) connector E-08 and amplifier connector D-19 for damage. 

    Q: Are tweeter (LH) connector E-08 and amplifier connector D-19 in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 20.

    NO:  Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The tweeter (LH) should sound.

  20. STEP 20. Check the wiring harnesses between tweeter (LH) connector E-08 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 27 and 22).

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-211. If intermediate connector C-211 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harnesses between tweeter (LH) connector E-08 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 27 and 22) in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 21.

    NO:  Repair the wiring harness(es). The tweeter (LH) should sound.

  21. STEP 21. Replace the radio and CD player. 

    Q: Do the speakers sound? 

    YES  : There is no action to be taken.

    NO:  Repair or replace the amplifier. The tweeter (LH) should sound.

  22. STEP 22. Check the tweeter (RH). 
    1. Remove the tweeter (RH). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
    2. Check that the tweeter (RH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the tweeter (RH) terminal.

    Q: Is the tweeter (RH) generating noise? 

    YES  : Go to Step 23.

    NO:  Replace the tweeter (RH). The tweeter (RH) should sound.

  23. STEP 23. Check tweeter (RH) connector E-03 and amplifier connector D-19 for damage. 

    Q: Are tweeter (RH) connector E-03 and amplifier connector D-19 in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 24.

    NO:  Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The tweeter (RH) should sound.

  24. STEP 24. Check the wiring harnesses between tweeter (RH) connector E-03 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 21 and 26).

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-213. If intermediate connector C-213 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harnesses between tweeter (RH) connector E-03 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 21 and 26) in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 25.

    NO:  Repair the wiring harness(es). The tweeter (RH) should sound.

  25. STEP 25. Replace the radio and CD player. 

    Q: Do the speakers sound? 

    YES  : There is no action to be taken.

    NO:  Repair or replace the amplifier. The tweeter (RH) should sound.

  26. STEP 26. Check the center speaker. 
    1. Remove the center speaker. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
    2. Check that the center speaker generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the center speaker terminal.

    Q: Is the center speaker generating noise? 

    YES  : Go to Step 27.

    NO:  Replace the center speaker. The center speaker should sound.

  27. STEP 27. Check center speaker connector C-07 and amplifier connector D-19 for damage. 

    Q: Are center speaker connector C-07 and amplifier connector D-19 in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 28.

    NO:  Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

  28. STEP 28. Check the wiring harness between center speaker connector C-07 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 21 and 26). 

    Q: Is the wiring harness between center speaker connector C-07 (terminals 1 and 2) and amplifier connector D-19 (terminals 21 and 26) in good condition? 

    YES  : Go to Step 29.

    NO:  Repair the wiring harness. The center speaker should sound.

  29. STEP 29. Replace the radio and CD player. 

    Q: Do the speakers sound? 

    YES  : There is no action to be taken.

    NO:  Repair or replace the amplifier. The tweeter (RH) should sound.
