Test 7A: Left SIACM, Seat Squib Short To Ground (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed. Left seat squib circuit wires change color at connector C209 (Orange-Yellow becomes White and Yellow-Orange becomes Orange). See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect left side air bag module 4-pin connector C209 located at base of seat. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) passenger cable and appropriate jumper to harness side of left side air bag connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Read left side air bag DTCs. If DRB displays LEFT SEAT SQUIB SHORTED TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRB does not display LEFT SEAT SQUIB SHORTED TO GROUND, replace left side air bag module. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect left SIACM connector. See SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (SIACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) SIACM adapter to left SIACM harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and SIACM connector terminal No. 3 (Orange-Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 10 megohms, repair short to ground in Orange-Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is more than 10 megohms, go to next step.
Measure resistance between ground and SIACM connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow-Orange wire). If resistance is less than 10 megohms, repair short to ground in Yellow-Orange wire. If resistance is more than 10 megohms, and no other malfunctions are found, replace left side impact air bag control module.
