Test 2A: ACM, Loss Of Ignition Run Only (Active Code)
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Remove fuse No. 5 located in fuse block. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on, engine off. Measure voltage between ground and ignition switch output side of fuse No. 5 (Black-Orange wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is less than 4.5 volts, repair open or low voltage condition in ignition switch output run circuit Black-Orange wire. If voltage is more than 4.5 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Inspect fuse No. 5. If fuse is open (blown), go to next step. If fuse is okay, reinstall fuse and go to step 5 .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ACM connector. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between ground and ACM connector terminal No. 15 (Tan-Light Green wire). See Fig 2 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan-Light Green wire and replace fuse (if necessary). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors and components. Install NEW fuse No. 5. Turn ignition on and connect negative battery cable. Inspect fuse No. 5. If fuse No. 5 is blown, replace ACM and fuse No. 5. If fuse No. 5 did not blow, test is complete.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ACM connector. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on, then reconnect battery. Measure voltage between ground and ACM connector terminal No. 15 (Tan-Light Green wire). See Fig 2 . If voltage is more than 4.5 volts and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ACM. If voltage is less than 4.5 volts, repair open in Tan-Light Green wire.
