Test 23A: ACM, Passenger Squib Circuit Short To Ground (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector located above glove box. Connect SRS Load Tool (8310) Brown cable and appropriate jumper to harness side of passenger-side air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays PASSENGER SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRB does not display PASSENGER SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace passenger-side air bag module. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ACM connector. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8310) ACM adapter to harness side of ACM connector. Measure resistance of Black-Yellow wire between ground and harness side of passenger-side air bag module connector. If resistance is less than 10 megohms, repair short to ground in Black-Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 10 megohms, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance of Dark Green-Yellow wire between ground and harness side of passenger-side air bag module connector. If resistance is less than 10 megohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green-Yellow wire. If resistance is more than 10 megohms and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ACM.
