Chime Inoperative With Exterior Lights On

  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under left side of instrument panel. Turn headlights on. Using scan tool, read parking light status. If scan tool displays PARK LAMPS: ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PARK LAMPS: ON, go to step  3.
  2. Open left front door. Using scan tool, read left front door ajar switch status. If DR DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED is indicated, replace Body Control Module (BCM). See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DR DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED is not indicated, go to OPEN DRIVER DOOR (LEFT FRONT) AJAR CIRCUIT; COURTESY LIGHT INOPERATIVE WITH LEFT FRONT DOOR (ALL MODELS)  under DOOR AJAR.
  3. Turn headlights off. Locate junction block 16-pin connector on opposite side from BCM. See Figure and Figure . DO NOT disconnect. Turn headlight switch on. Using DVOM, backprobe and measure voltage between ground and 16-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Dark Green wire). See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Black/Dark Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Turn ignition off and disconnect DVOM. Disconnect BCM from junction block and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. See Figure and Figure . Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and BCM internal 12-pin connector terminal No. 8. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace junction block.
  5. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
