Coolant Temperature Sending Unit

Drain coolant from engine and remove sending unit from intake manifold. Place sending unit into approximately 158°F (70°C) water. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminal and case. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be 90.5-117.5 ohms. If resistance is not within specifications, replace sending unit. Apply thread sealant to sending unit before installing. If resistance is within specifications, check coolant temperature gauge. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
