Codes 21, 22, 61 & 62: Driver-Side Air Bag Module

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Disconnect clockspring connector. Connect SRS Check Harness (MD991613) connector to clockspring harness connector. See Fig 1 . Erase diagnostic trouble code memory. Check to see if Codes 21, 22, 61 or 62 are still present. If codes are present, go to next step. If codes are not present, perform CLOCKSPRING TEST  . If clockspring is okay, replace driver-side air bag module. If clockspring is not okay, replace clockspring.
  3. Check SRS-ECU connector and clockspring connector. If connectors are not good, repair as required. If connectors are okay and problem is still present, check harness between SRS-ECU and clockspring. If the harness is not good, repair as required. If harness is okay, replace SRS-ECU.
