Noisy Valve Train
- Noisy valve train could be caused by low oil level, high oil level, or deteriorated oil. If oil level is low, air will be sucked in from oil stainer and mixed in oil passage. If oil level is high, crankshaft will add air to oil by stirring it. If oil is deteriorated, it will not easily separate from air and amount of air mixed in oil will increase. Air diluted oil will enter hydraulic lash adjusters causing them to collapse under pressure. Bleed hydraulic lash adjusters to remove air. See ON VEHICLE HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTERS BLEEDING under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If noise continues, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Set No. 1 cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC) of compression stroke. Remove cylinder head covers. Push rocker arms indicated by arrow marked "A" as illustrated. See Fig 1. If arm goes down, replace appropriate hydraulic lash adjuster and recheck hydraulic lash adjuster operation. See ROCKER ARM & VALVE LASH ADJUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If arm does not go down, go to next step.
- Turn crankshaft slowly clockwise one complete revolution. Push rocker arms indicated by arrow marked "B" as illustrated. See Fig 1. If arm goes down, replace appropriate hydraulic lash adjuster and recheck hydraulic lash adjuster operation. See ROCKER ARM & VALVE LASH ADJUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
