Test NS-6C - Repairing No Response Condition

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After each repair, perform TEST VER-1.
  1. If ignition is not on when NO RESPONSE message is displayed, turn ignition on to get a response. Test is complete. If ignition is on when NO RESPONSE message is displayed, turn ignition off. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connectors (DLCs). Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Inspect connectors. Repair any terminals that are damaged, pushed out or miswired. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
  3. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between DLC 16-pin connector terminal No. 7 (Pink wire) and chassis ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Check resistance between DLC 12-pin connector terminal No. 5 (Dark Blue/Black wire) and chassis ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Check resistance of Pink wire between DLC 16-pin connector terminal No. 7 and PCM connector terminal No. 30. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Pink wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Check resistance of Dark Blue/Black wire between DLC 12-pin connector terminal No. 5 and PCM connector terminal No. 9. If resistance more than 5 ohms, repair open Dark Blue/Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Connect scan tool to functional DLCs on another vehicle. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to read DTCs. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace initial vehicle's PCM. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  8. Substitute another scan tool adapter cable. Using scan tool, attempt to read DTCs. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace scan tool adapter cable. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, repair or replace scan tool.
