Test NS-6B - Repairing No Response Condition
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After each repair, perform TEST VER-1.
- On FJ22 and F24S bodies, go to TEST NS-6C. On JA and PL bodies, if ignition is not on when NO RESPONSE message is displayed, turn ignition on to get a response. Test is complete. If ignition is on when NO RESPONSE message is displayed, turn ignition off. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Inspect DLC and PCM connector. Repair any terminals that are damaged, pushed out or miswired. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between DLC terminal No. 7 (Pink/Light Blue wire on JA body; Pink wire on PL body) and chassis ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink/Light Blue wire or Pink wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance between DLC terminal No. 6 (Light Green wire) and chassis ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of SCI transmit circuit (Pink/Light Blue wire on JA body; Pink wire on PL body) between DLC terminal No. 7 and PCM connector terminal No. 30 on PL body or No. 65 on JA body. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Pink/Light Blue wire or Pink wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of SCI receive circuit (Light Green wire from DLC and Light Green/White wire from PCM connector on JA body; Light Green wire on PL body) between DLC terminal No. 6 and PCM connector terminal No. 75 on JA body, or DLC terminal No. 6 and PCM connector terminal No. 9 on PL body. If resistance more than 5 ohms, repair open Light Green wire or Light Green/White wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to functional DLC on another vehicle. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to read DTCs. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace initial vehicle's PCM. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
- Substitute another scan tool adapter cable. Using scan tool, attempt to read DTCs. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace scan tool adapter cable. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, repair or replace scan tool.
