Test NS-5A - Checking Fuel Pump

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Fuel Pump (FP) relay. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on fuel pump relay connector terminal "B" (Red/Black wire on FJ22 and F24S bodies; Red wire on JA body; Red/White wire on PL body). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/Black wire, Red wire or Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Substitute a known-good fuel pump relay. Attempt to start engine. If engine starts, replace fuel pump relay. If engine does not start, go to next step.
  3. Reinstall original fuel pump relay. Disconnect fuel pump connector. Ensure fuel pump connector has clean and tight connections. Turn ignition on. Go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, actuate fuel system. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on fuel pump connector terminal No. 2 on FJ22 body (Black/Dark Blue wire), No. 3 on F24S body (Black/Dark Blue wire), or No. 4 on JA and PL bodies (Dark Green/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black/Dark Blue wire or Dark Green/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of fuel pump connector terminal No. 1 on FJ22 and PL bodies, No. 2 on JA body or No. 4 on F24S body (Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace fuel pump.
