Test NS-4B - Repairing High Fuel Pressure
NOTE:
After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A .
- On FJ22 and F24S bodies, go to next step. On JA and PL bodies, inspect fuel return tube between fuel filter and fuel pump module. If a restriction exists, replace restricted fuel tube. If no restriction exists, replace in-tank fuel pressure regulator.WARNING: High fuel pressure may be present in fuel lines. Open fuel system with caution. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE procedure.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure fuel tank is at least 1/4 full. Release fuel pressure. Remove fuel return hose from fuel rail. Connect a 6-foot fuel hose to fuel rail return tube. Put other end of 6-foot hose into an approved 2-gallon or more capacity gasoline container. Go to next step.
- Connect a fuel pressure gauge to fuel rail service port. While observing pressure gauge, use scan tool to actuate fuel system. Read fuel pressure gauge. Go to next step.
- Stop actuation test. If fuel pressure is more than 53 psi (3.7 kg/cm2 ), replace fuel pressure regulator. If fuel pressure is less than 53 psi (3.7 kg/cm2 ), repair restriction in fuel return line from fuel rail to fuel tank.
