Test NS-4A - Repairing Low Fuel Pressure
NOTE:
After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A .
CAUTION:
DO NOT
allow fuel pressure to exceed 70 psi (4.9 kg/cm2
) when squeezing fuel hose.
- On all vehicles except JA and PL bodies, go to TEST NS-4C . On JA body and PL bodies, record fuel pressure gauge reading. Turn ignition off. Go to next step.WARNING: High fuel pressure may be present in fuel lines. Open fuel system with caution. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE procedure.
- Release fuel pressure. Remove fuel pressure gauge. Install Fuel Pressure Adapter (6631) between fuel filter outlet and fuel supply tube. Turn ignition on. Connect fuel pressure gauge to fuel pressure adapter. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate fuel system. Record fuel pressure gauge reading. Compare this reading with previous reading. If fuel pressure is more than 43 psi (3.0 kg/cm2 ), repair restriction in fuel supply line between fuel filter and fuel rail. If pressure is less than 43 psi (3.0 kg/cm2 ), go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Release fuel pressure. Remove fuel pressure adapter and reinstall fuel supply line. Install fuel pressure adapter and gauge between fuel pump and fuel filter. Using scan tool, actuate fuel system. If fuel pressure is more than 43 psi (3.0 kg/cm2 ), replace fuel filter. If fuel pressure is less than 43 psi (3.0 kg/cm2 ), go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Release fuel pressure. Remove fuel pump module. Inspect fuel pump inlet strainer. Replace strainer if plugged. If strainer is okay, replace fuel pump module.
