Test NS-3A - Checking Engine Mechanical System
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A .
- On all vehicles except JA body, go to step 5). On JA body, inspect spark plug cables for correct placement. Reposition cables as necessary. If spark plug cables are installed correctly, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check valve timing. Adjust valve timing as necessary. If valve timing is okay, go to next step.
- Remove all spark plugs. Inspect spark plug tips for wet fuel. If spark plug tips are wet, clean spark plugs. If spark plug tips are not wet, reinstall spark plugs. Go to next step.
- Check engine compression. Repair engine as necessary. If engine compression is okay, no-start condition is not caused by an electrical fault. Repair engine mechanical problem as necessary.
- On all vehicles except JA body, disconnect Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on MAP sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Green/Yellow wire on FJ22 and F24S bodies; Violet/White wire on PL body). If voltage is less than 4.5 volts, repair open Dark Green/Yellow wire or Violet/White wire. If voltage is more than 4.5 volts, go to next step.
- Reconnect MAP sensor connector. Inspect spark plug cables for correct placement. Reposition cables as necessary. If spark plug cables are installed correctly, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check valve timing. Adjust valve timing as necessary. If valve timing is okay, go to next step.
- Remove all spark plugs. Inspect spark plug tips for wet fuel. If spark plug tips are wet, clean spark plugs. If spark plug tips are not wet, rein-stall spark plugs. Go to next step.
- Check engine compression. Repair engine as necessary. If engine compression is okay, replace MAP sensor.
