Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install cylinder head gaskets with identification number facing up. Tighten cylinder head bolts to specification in sequence using 4 steps. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . See Figure .
  2. When tightening cylinder head bolts required additional 1/4 turn, torque should exceed 90 ft. lbs. (122 N.m). Replace bolt if torque does not exceed 90 ft. lbs. (122 N.m).
  3. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Follow proper procedure when installing rocker arm assembly and push rods. See ROCKER ARMS & PUSH RODS  .
  4. When filling cooling system, remove engine temperature sending unit located in front of thermostat housing. Fill cooling system until coolant reaches hole. Install sending unit and tighten to 60 INCH lbs. (7 N.m). Finish filling cooling system.
