Cylinder Head: Inspection

  1. Check cylinder head for warpage. Resurface head if warpage exceeds .00075" (.0190 mm) per 1" (25 mm) span. DO NOT grind more than .008" (.20 mm) combined total from cylinder head surface and cylinder block deck surface.
  2. Using a straightedge, ensure cylinder head bolt threads make contact in all areas. If threads fail to contact straightedge, bolts are stretched and must be replaced.
CAUTION: No. 9 cylinder head bolt is an 8-mm bolt and must be tightened to specification after all other bolts (11 mm) are tightened to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
