Circuit/System Verification
This diagnostic assumes the following:
- The battery is completely charged - Refer to: Symptoms - Engine Electrical
- There is adequate fuel in the fuel tank.
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Water in Fuel = No
- If not the specified state
Refer to: Water-in-Fuel Draining , or Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- If not the specified state
- Engine - Cranking - For 10 s
Verify there are no related DTCs set in the following system:
- B23 Camshaft Position Sensor
- B26 Crankshaft Position Sensor
- B34 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
- B46 Fuel Level Sensor
- B47B Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor
- E12 Glow Plug
- E11A Fuel Heater/Water in Fuel Sensor
- KR22 Fuel Heater Relay
- KR75 Engine Controls Ignition Relay
- Q18 Fuel Pressure Regulator
- Q20 Intake Air Flow Valve
- Control Module Internal Failure
- Fuel Injector Control Module System Voltage
- Fuel System
- System Voltage
- Theft Deterrent System
- If a related DTC is set
- Go to next step: If a related DTC is not set
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
Verify the component turns On and Off: Security Indicator - But not flashing
- If the component does not work as specified
Refer to: Symptoms - Theft Deterrent , or Symptoms - Immobilizer
- Go to next step: If the component works as specified
- If the component does not work as specified
- Engine - Cranking - For 10 s
Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Speed = Greater than 0 RPM
- If 0 RPM
Refer to: DTC P0335 or P0336
- Go to next step: If greater than 0 RPM
- If 0 RPM
- Engine - Cranking - For 10 s
Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Speed =
- {Engine Coolant Temperature = Less than 0°C (32°F)}Greater than 50 RPM
- {Engine Coolant Temperature = Greater than 60°C (140°F)}Greater than 125 RPM
- If the specified value or less
Refer to: Engine Cranks Slowly
- Go to next step: If greater than the specified value
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Hoses/Lines@Fuel System - Kinked/Leaking/Restricted/Visible Damage
- Components@Fuel System - Leaking - Refer to: Fuel Leak Diagnosis
- If a condition exists
Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Perform the scan tool function: Fuel Pump@K20 Engine Control Module - On and Off
Verify the component turns On and Off: G12 Fuel Pump
- If the component does not turn On and Off
Refer to: Fuel System Diagnosis
- Go to next step: If the component turns On and Off
- If the component does not turn On and Off
- Engine - Cranking - For 10 s
Verify the scan tool parameter: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor@K20 Engine Control Module = Greater than 13 MPa (1, 885 PSI) - While the engine is cranking.
- If 13 MPa (1, 885 PSI) or less
Refer to: Fuel System Diagnosis
- Go to next step: If greater than 13 MPa (1, 885 PSI)
- If 13 MPa (1, 885 PSI) or less
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Intake Air Duct - Collapsed/Restricted/Visible Damage
- Air Cleaner Element - Dirty/Restricted
- Fuel Feed Pipe - Kinked/ Leaking/Restricted/Visible Damage
- Low Reference circuit@B23 Camshaft Position SensororB26 Crankshaft Position Sensor - Corrosion/Loose/Open/Poor Connection
- Ground circuit@Engine - Corrosion/Loose/Poor Connection
- Ground circuitorLow Reference circuit@K20 Engine Control Module - Corrosion/Loose/Poor Connection
- Exhaust System - Restricted/ Visible Damage - Refer to: Restricted Exhaust
- Q17 Fuel Injector - Blocked/Dirty/Restricted/ Visible Damage - Refer to: Fuel System Diagnosis
- Fuel - Contaminated/Dirty/Fill Level = Low/Ice/Paraffin Wax /Water/ - Refer to: Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis
- B34 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - Skewed - Refer to: DTC P0117-P0119, P2184-P2186, P2B2D, P2B2E, or P2BB5
- Engine - Mechanical Condition - Refer to: Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
For example:
- Compression - Low
- Timing ChainorTiming Belt - Visible Damage /Worn
- If a condition exists
Repair or replace the components as necessary.
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- All OK.
