Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

    Plenum Front Panel (3) - Remove - Plenum Front Panel Replacement (LTG LGX)

    Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector (1) and the fuel injector harness connector (2), if necessary.

    Remove the 2 transmission bolts (3, 4)

  5. Position the electrical wiring harness (3) out of the way.
  6. Two-piece propeller shaft - Remove - Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Coupe with LGX and M13) , or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Convertible with LGX and M13) , or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Coupe with LGX and M5T, MI1) , or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Convertible with LGX and M5T, MI1)

    Disconnect the transmission range selector lever cable terminal (1) from the transmission manual shift lever pin.

  8. Remove the transmission range selector lever cable bolt (4).
  9. Slide the retainer (3) forward to release the transmission range selector lever cable (5) from the bracket.
  10. Remove the two cable retainer bolts (6) from the transmission cross member.
  11. Slide trans range selector lever cable end retainer lock (2) forward and raise cable adjustment retainer to unlock. Remove range selector lever cable from range selector lever cable lever.

    Remove the front cradle shear plate (1). Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement

  13. Remove the heated oxygen sensor brackets from the transmission.
  14. Remove the starter. Starter Replacement (LGX)

    Remove the transmission close out plug (1).

  17. Mark the torque converter to flex plate orientation to ensure proper realignment.

    Repeat the following steps for all of the torque converter bolts (1):

    1. Rotate the crankshaft balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY, in order to align the torque converter bolt with the starter opening.
    2. Remove and DISCARD the torque converter bolt.
  19. Support the transmission with a suitable transmission jack.
  20. Transmission Mount - Remove - Transmission Mount Replacement 
  21. Tilt the transmission downward just enough to gain access to the transmission left and right side fasteners.
  22. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness retainers from the transmission to engine fasteners and from the transmission case.
  23. Disconnect Transmission vent hose at transmission.

    Place an oil drain pan under the transmission fluid cooler pipes (2).

  25. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipes (2) from the transmission, and position aside, or remove from the vehicle as necessary. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With M13, With 1LE Package) , or Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With M5T, With V03) , or Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With M5T, Without V03)
  26. Plug the open fluid ports to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

    Remove the 2 vacuum pump pipe bolts (1) and reposition pipe (2). Vacuum Pump Pipe Replacement

    Remove the 6 lower transmission bolts (1).

    Remove the left side engine to transmission bolt (1).

    Remove the 4 transmission bolts (1).

  31. Pull the transmission straight back.
  32. Install the DT-21366  Torque Converter Holding Strap onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter.
  33. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
  34. Transfer components as necessary.
  35. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler, hoses, and pipes for leaks or damage. Replace as necessary.
