Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
  3. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)
  4. Intake Manifold Insulator - Remove - Intake Manifold Insulator Replacement .
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  6. Remove both front wheelhouse liners. Front Wheelhouse Liner ReplacementFront Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (ZL1)
  7. Remove the engine wiring harness junction block. Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement
  8. Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove - Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement

    Electrical Connector (1) @Transmission Control Module - Disconnect

  10. Detach the harness retainer (2)

    Remove the battery terminal (1) from the jump start post.

  12. Detach the engine harness retainers as necessary and position engine harness onto the engine

    Detach the coolant heater cord harness retainer (1) from the right side front end sheet metal diagonal brace.

    Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @Water Outlet - Disconnect

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (2) @Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Disconnect

    Heater Inlet Hose (1) @Heater Core - Disconnect

    Heater Outlet Hose (1) @Heater Core - Disconnect

  21. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube - Remove - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement

    Power Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor (1) - Disconnect

  23. Using mechanics wire, support the radiator assembly to the vehicle body.

    Air Conditioning Compressor Hose (1) @Air Conditioning Compressor - Disconnect - Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LGX without J6G)Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LGX with J6G)

  25. Disconnect the engine cooling fan electrical connector.
  26. Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield - Remove - Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (Coupe - LGX, LTG)
  27. Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield - Remove - Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement
  28. Prepare the transmission for removal. Transmission Replacement (M13 with LGX Engine)
  29. Catalytic Converter - Remove [2x] - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (LH - LGX) , and Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (RH - LGX)
  30. If equipped with V03, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe at the air conditioning condenser.   31. NOTE:

    Removing the powertrain assembly from the vehicle could cause an unstable balance condition with the vehicle body on the vehicle hoist. Securing the vehicle body to the hoist is necessary.

  32. Secure the vehicle body to the vehicle hoist using suitable straps or binders.
  33. NOTE:

    The powertrain assembly will be removed from vehicle on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. In the next step, only perform the necessary procedures required to remove the powertrain assembly.

  34. Remove the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with the powertrain attached. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LGX - Coupe)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LGX - Convertible) .
  35. Lower the powertrain onto a suitable support table.
  36. Secure the powertrain to the support table using straps and binders.
  37. With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the frame.
  38. Ensure when raising the body the following items are clear from the frame:
    • Vacuum lines
    • Steering knuckles
    • Electrical wiring harnesses
    • Oil cooler lines
  39. Separate the engine from the transmission. Transmission Replacement (M13 with LGX Engine) .
