Circuit/System Testing

    NOTE:

Before testing can be performed the liftgate must be opened. Refer to Opening the Liftgate Without Electrical Power for the appropriate procedure.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the harness connector at the S45A Liftgate Control Switch - Exterior. Ignition ON
  3. Verify a test lamp illuminates between ground circuit terminal 2 and B+.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate
    1. Repair the open/high resistance on circuit 2050 or the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp illuminates
  4. Test for greater than 7 V between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground
    • If 7 V or less
    1. Test circuit 5797 for a short to ground.
      • If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If a short to ground is not found
    2. Test circuit 5797 for an open/high resistance.
      • If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If an open/high resistance is not found.
    3. Replace the K9 Body Control Module.
    • Go to next step: If greater than 7 V
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector: A23C Liftgate Latch
  6. Connect a test lamp between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 & Ground
  7. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  8. Operate the component: S13D Door Lock Switch - Driver - Unlock Switch
  9. Momentarily install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 at the S45A Liftgate Control Switch - Exterior and ground.

Verify the test lamp flashes ON and OFF

    • If the test lamp is always OFF
    1. Ignition OFF, remove the test lamp, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the circuit 6128 and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the circuit 6128 end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K9 Body Control Module
    • If the test lamp is always ON
    1. Ignition OFF, remove the test lamp, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module, ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the circuit 6128 and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns ON and OFF
  10. Connect a test lamp between the test points: Control circuit terminal 4 & B+
  11. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode

    2. Test for less than 1 V between the circuit 2680 and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the circuit 2680 end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the lamp flashes ON and OFF
  13. Connect the harness connector at the S45A Liftgate Control Switch - Exterior. Ignition ON
  14. Operate the component: S45A Liftgate Control Switch - Exterior - Pressed

    Verify the test lamp state:

Not Pressed = Test lamp Off

Pressed = Test lamp flashes ON and OFF

    • If the test lamp is always OFF

Test or replace the S45A Liftgate Control Switch - Exterior

    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns ON and OFF
  15. Test or replace the component: A23C Liftgate Latch
