Shift Shaft Assemblies and Gear Cluster Removal
Using a 3/16 in drift punch and hammer drive the coiled spring pin downward and remove.
Remove the spacer (1), main shaft rear bearing race (2), and main shaft bearing spacer (3).
- Using DT-22888-20A puller with DT-22888-60 legs, remove the reverse gear and synchronizer (4) together as an assembly.
Using DT-22888-20A puller with DT-22888-60 legs, remove the reverse gear bearing assembly (1) and bushing (2).
Remove the 3rd gear assembly (1) and the 3rd & 4th gear spacer (2).
Using snap ring pliers, remove the inner bearing race retainer (1), then remove the race (2) from the shaft.
- Using snap ring pliers, remove the reverse gear assembly retainer (3).
- Using DT 22888-D Right Differential Side Bearing Puller remove the reverse drive gear assembly (2).
Remove the 3rd gear thrust washer (1) and the 3rd gear drive gear assembly (2).
Remove the 3rd gear blocking ring assemblies (1, 2, and 3).
- Remove the 3rd gear bearing assembly (4).
Using a 3/16 in drift and hammer, drive the coiled spring pin downward and remove.
Remove the 3rd & 4th synchronizer sleeve and fork assembly (1).
- Remove the 3rd gear bearing roller spacer (2). Using snap ring pliers remove the retaining ring (3).
Remove the 3rd & 4th hub, 4th gear blocking rings, and 4th gear drive gear (1) as an assembly.
- Remove the 4th gear bearing assembly (2).
Remove the shift shaft detent plug (1). Then using a 3/16 in drift and hammer drive the coiled spring pin downward and remove.
With the same drift still in the shift shaft, remove the shift shaft detent spring cover bolt (1), shift shaft detent spring (2), and shift shaft detent (3).
Using a 3/16 in punch drive the coiled spring pin downward and remove.
- With the drift still in the shift shaft, remove the shift shaft detent spring cover bolt (1), shift shaft detent spring (2), and shift shaft detent (3).
- NOTE:
Watch for interlock pin inside of this shaft, keep parts together.
Remove the 3rd & 4th shift shaft (1).
Remove the shift shaft detent spring cover bolt (1 and 6), shift shaft detent springs (2 and 5) and shift shaft detents (3 and 4).
- Using a 3/16 in punch drive the coiled spring pin downward and remove.
Remove the manual transmission 3rd & 4th selector lever (1), manual transmission 5th & 6th selector lever (2), and the manual transmission 1st & 2nd selector lever (3).
Remove the reverse shift shaft assembly and manual transmission reverse selector lever (1) as an assembly.
Using a drift punch and hammer drive the roll pins (6) downward and remove.
- Remove the shift interlock plate retainer bolts (1), shift control spacer (4), and neutral cam (5).
- Remove the shift bar support (interlock) (2) and selector finger and cam (7) at the same time, then remove the shift interlock pins (3).
- Remove the second shift control spacer (8)
Remove the 4th gear assembly (1) using J 22888 - D side bearing remover (2) with DT 51075 puller adapter set (3).
Remove the clutch housing bolts (1).
Remove the transmission case assembly (1).
Remove the Shift Shaft Assemblies (1 & 2).
Remove the counter gear assembly (1).
Remove the main shaft, shift rails, and shift forks as an assembly (1).
- Remove the blocking ring (2), intermediate cone (3), and inner cone (4).
- Remove the input shaft assembly (5).
