Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a) , or Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
  3. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)
  4. Remove both front wheelhouse liners. Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (ZL1)

    Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect @ Transmission Control Module - Transmission Control Module Replacement (Except V18) , or Transmission Control Module Replacement (V18)

  6. Detach the harness retainer (2)

    Remove the battery terminal (1) from the jump start post.

  8. Remove the engine wiring harness junction block. Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement
  9. Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove - Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement (LT4)
  10. Detach necessary engine harness retainers and reposition the engine harness on the engine.

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect

  12. Heater Inlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LT1 LT4)
  13. Heater Outlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LT1 LT4)

    Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect

  15. Radiator Outlet Hose - Remove - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LT4)

    Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose (2) - Disconnect - Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement - Engine to Radiator (LT4)

  17. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose - Remove - Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement - Pump to Manifold (LT4)

    Fuel Feed Pipe (1) @ Engine (2) - Disconnect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

  19. Fuel Feed Pipe (1) @ Retainer (3) - Remove

    Air Conditioning Compressor Hose (1) - Disconnect - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LT4)

  21. Remove the front tires and wheels. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  22. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  23. Front Cradle Shear Plate - Remove - Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement
  24. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement

    Electrical Connector (1) @ Steering Gear - Disconnect [2x]

  26. Exhaust Muffler - Remove - Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LT1, LT4, Coupe) , or Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LT1, LT4, Convertible)
  27. Transmission - Remove - Transmission Replacement (with LT1, LT4)

    Knock Sensor @ Right Side (1) - Disconnect

  29. Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Disconnect
  30. Oil Level Sensor (3) - Disconnect

    Front Wheel Speed Sensor Wiring Harness (1) - Disconnect [2x] - Front Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement

  32. Stabilizer Shaft Link @ Stabilizer Shaft - Disconnect - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (LT1, LT4 or LTG with 1LE)

    Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod (3) @ Steering Knuckle - Disconnect [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement

  34. Separate the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint. [2x] Front Lower Control Front Link Replacement (LT1, LT4, or LTG with 1LE, with V18)
  35. Support the engine on the EN-48244  Engine Support Table.

    Remove the front and rear cradle fasteners (1) [8x]. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LT1, LT4)

    Remove the ground strap bolt (1) at the rear of the left cylinder head.

  38. Remove the ground strap (2) from the rear of the left cylinder head.

    Remove the ground strap bolt (1) at the rear of the right cylinder head.

  40. Remove the ground strap (2) from the rear of the right cylinder head.

    Disconnect the electrical connector for the knock sensor, left side.

  42. Remove the engine harness retaining fasteners at the rear of the engine.
    43. NOTE:

    Visually inspect the wiring harness clearances while raising the vehicle.

  43. Raise the vehicle completely off of the engine and cradle.
  44. Install the EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket to the engine using EN-52059  Engine Support Fixture Adapter Bolt - M10.
  45. Remove the engine mount nuts.
  46. Using a engine hoist and the EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket slowly raise the engine.
  47. Remove the engine from the cradle.
  48. Install the engine onto an engine stand and prepare for disassembly.
  49. Remove the engine hoist.
  50. Remove the EN-52059  Engine Support Fixture Adapter Bolt - M10 and EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket from the engine.
