Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) .
- Drain the intercooler cooling system. Refer to Charge Air Cooling System Draining and Filling (LT4) .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the plenum front panel. Refer to Plenum Front Panel Replacement (LT1 LT4)
- Remove the supercharger belt tensioner bracket. Refer to Supercharger Belt Tensioner Bracket Replacement
- Remove the supercharger and gasket. Refer to Compressor Air Intake Supercharger and Gasket Replacement .
- Remove the valve rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
- Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Gas Engine Ignition Spark Plug Replacement .
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the exhaust manifold to cylinder head bolts. Reposition the exhaust manifold away from the cylinder head. Discard the bolts. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (LT1, LT4) .
- Remove and discard the exhaust manifold to cylinder head gasket.
- Remove the ground wire bolt from the rear of the cylinder head and position the ground wire away.
Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts. DO NOT use an impact to remove the head bolts.
- Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
- For cleaning and inspection. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
- For cylinder head disassemble. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble (LT4) .
