Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Drain the coolant system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) .
  2. Remove the fuel injector rail. Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 1 (LT1) .
  3. Remove the exhaust manifold. Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (LT1, LT4) .
  4. Remove the ground wire bolt from the rear of the cylinder head and position the ground wire away.
  5. Remove the valve rocker arms and push rods. Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

    NOTE:

    Ensure to DISCARD all cylinder head bolts.

    Remove the cylinder head bolts (1).

  7. Remove cylinder head (2).
  8. Remove and DISCARD cylinder head gasket (3). Replacing Engine Gaskets .
  9. Clean and inspect the cylinder head. Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
  10. Disassemble the cylinder as necessary. Cylinder Head Disassemble (LT1) .
