Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Assemble the cylinder head as necessary. Cylinder Head Assemble (LT1) .
- Clean any debris or residual fastener thread sealant from the engine block cylinder head bolt holes to ensure proper torque or clamp load.

Install a NEW cylinder head gasket (1).
- Install cylinder head (2).
- Hand start NEW cylinder head bolts (3 and 4).
- Tighten the cylinder head bolt (3) in sequence.
- First Pass: 80 N.m (59 lb ft)
- Second Pass: 90°
- Final Pass: 40°
- Tighten the cylinder head bolt (4) in sequence.
- First Pass: 80 N.m (59 lb ft)
- Second Pass: 90°
- Final Pass: 60°
- Install the valve rocker arms and push rods. Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
- Install the ground wire and bolt at the rear of the cylinder head. Tighten the bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
- Install the exhaust manifold. Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (LT1, LT4) .
- Install the fuel injector rail. Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 1 (LT1) .
- Refill the coolant system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) .
CAUTION:
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:
The forward most fastener on the Left Side Cylinder Head is unique to all other cylinder head fasteners. It is shorter, has an internal hex drive and has a lower final tightening torque angle.
